ABOUT US

In November 2012, voters in Franklin Township and the City of Wellsville overwhelming approved the creation of the fire district pursuant to K.S.A. 80-1540 et seq. Creation of the Wellsville Fire District resulted in a single combined fire, rescue and first responder emergency medical services organization covering an area of 60 square miles (the size of the City of Topeka). The Wellsville Fire District began operations on January 1, 2014. The WFD serves and protects northeastern Franklin County including the City of Wellsville, Franklin Township, the town of LeLoup, and eastern Hayes Township.

Wellsville Fire District's 24 officers and firefighters are led by Chief Troy Calderwood.  Our state of the art apparatus, equipment and training allows us to put a priority on the safety and security of our citizens and firefighters.

In addition to serving the Wellsville area, we have mutual aid agreements with neighboring departments in Franklin and Johnson counties as well as Baldwin City.
